The outer islands, also known as the “hunting” islands, were home to the nation’s wealthiest plantations in the mid 19th century, as acres of Sea Island Cotton created fields of snow. Connected by small tidal creeks, these islands are lined with stately live oaks draped in Spanish moss and uninterrupted views of crescent moons perfectly placed next to tall palmetto trees.
