Engagement Session Tips

Getting engaged is by far the most exciting event to happen to you thus far in your life. The moment that your S.O. gets down on one knee, your life is changed! In one moment, and with one question, you have so much to look forward to in the near future. This engagement and wedding planning “season” is one of those times in your life that you will want to remember forever. Engagement photo sessions are almost routine at this day in age; so, we’ve created a list of our top 3 tips when it comes to stepping out in front of the camera with your fiancé!

1. Create a Pinterest board for your photographer.

This lets everyone know what the end goal is. This keeps everyone on the same playing field, and thinking about the same aspects when it comes to what you are looking for in your images. Whether you want a specific lighting or a certain vibe to your shoot, this will also help you narrow down what photographers line up best with what you want, specifically.

2. Don’t overthink it!

There is no need to get inside your head and start worrying about what angles work best and what faces are the most natural and look best on camera. The trick is just relax and be yourself. That’s when the best images come to life! Don’t worry TOO much about what to wear– just make sure you are comfortable in it and feel good in it, and the rest will take care of itself.

3. Use your engagement session as a trial-run for your wedding.

This tip is multi-dimensional. First of all, we mean that it’s best to use the same photographer for both photo shoots. This way, you will already know how to work with your photographer come wedding day, and there is absolutely zero room for any missteps. You’ll be more comfortable and your photographer will also be more comfortable. This, in turn, will create more natural photos in the end!

Second, use your engagement session to try our make up styles or hair styles to see how they photograph. Try out different poses, and find out what you and your partner like best!
