Sunset Wedding at Tybee

Sunset Wedding at Tybee | Lowcountry Bride

From Jenna Coleman of J Leslie Designs: In planning for a Summer Styled photo shoot, we noticed that few seem to take advantage of the beach landscape that is so close to us here in Savannah. It makes for the perfect wedding backdrop, though often only chosen for ceremony. There is so much interest in each area of the beach; the dunes, the back river, the jetties. We decided to plan our shoot for the dunes area just before the flat of the beach, but with the lighthouse in the background. We wanted to incorporate Savannah Vintage Rental’s unique pieces to really create a sense of a room in such a vast setting. We really wanted to establish a southern coastal feel for the shoot that was also fresh and airy. I envisioned the concept of an oyster table runner and built the style of the shoot around that. Marianne was able to capture the feel that we desired in her shots, where I focused on the design elements. We began by choosing the wedding dress at the wonderful Ivory + Beau. Their unique gown options are endless. We went with the Hayes gown by Sarah Seven because of its feminine feel and movement perfect for the breeze of the beach. For the flowers, our floral stylist Joshua Grotheer was perfect for the job; creating that fresh, garden inspired look. With so many rustic elements surrounding the location, we wanted to incorporate the femininity that Lillian’s China brings to the table, literally. The beauty of Ashley Curry’s calligraphy work amazes me every time I see it. We incorporated oyster elements in the invitation design to create a unified look. From there, we decided to do oyster place cards, and oysters as a cake topper to tie in the concept. I wanted any of my wood signage to have similar tones as driftwood to create a natural look. I really wanted to create unique elements that you don’t see at your average wedding for a lot of our decor choices; pineapple bowling, paintbrush sand brush off station, even a custom crest guest book sign. The main focus of my design business is to create pieces that are one of a kind and are personalized for the bride and groom so that their day reflects their uniqueness and individuality as a couple. This shoot was a joy to design, a dream to work with these vendors, and a blast to model in!

From Marianne Brown of Marianne Lucille Photography: Jenna and I have done a few styled shoots together and this one was one of the biggest that we have done. We went for it and asked some of our dream vendors to help with this shoot including Savannah Vintage Rentals, Lillian’s China, Joshua Grotheer Designs and Ashley Curry Designs. With summer just around the corner, a shoot on the beach just made complete sense. Tybee is a short drive from Savannah and gives an amazing escape to those of us who live in Savannah full time. I loved being able to add pops of color into the shoot with the amazing blue couch and green chair from Savannah Vintage Rentals and the fun vintage plates and glasses from Lillian’s China. Joshua Grotheer out did himself with the amazing florals he provided for the shoot. From the table top vases filled with beautiful hydrangeas to the gorgeous overflowing bouquet he put together with my favorite bouquet design element: hanging ribbons! As the photographer for this shoot, I wanted to make sure that we had the best light that allowed for me to shoot both digital and film. Being a hybrid shooter, I have to take into account the sun, where it’s sitting in the sky and how bright it is to ensure amazing photos. I also wanted to make sure that we had a gorgeous dress for this shoot, so Jenna and I found this beautiful Sarah Seven dress called “Hayes” to use from the amazing Ivory and Beau wedding boutique. I wanted a dress that was beautiful and flowed in the wind to really push the easy breezy beach feel. I hope that more people think about doing more than just their ceremony on the beach after checking out these inspiration photos. A wedding and reception would be beautiful and a perfect way to end a fantastic week at the beach.
